ROADSTERS ANNOUNCE FIRST SPRING TRAINING INVITES
The Modesto Roadsters have officially begun building their inaugural roster, announcing the first group of players invited to Spring Training this May. Under Pioneer League guidelines, these signings represent invitations to compete for a spot on the active roster, setting the stage for a highly competitive camp. As names continue to be added, the foundation of Roadsters baseball is starting to come into focus.
A STAFF BUILT TO COMPETE
The early group is headlined by a deep and experienced pitching staff that blends professional experience with high-upside arms.
Josh Swales, a 13th round selection by Arizona in the 2021 MLB Draft, brings two seasons of experience from the Visalia Rawhide, where he appeared in 71 games. Hunter Edwards, a 6’8” right-hander out of Pacific University, adds size and power to the rotation, featuring a 92 MPH fastball and multiple breaking pitches.
Additional right-handed depth comes from Hayden Hadenbach and Will Marquart. Hadenbach made 36 appearances at UC Santa Barbara before continuing his development in summer ball, while Marquart is coming off a strong 2025 season at UNLV, recording 42 strikeouts across 34 innings with a 4-1 record.
The Roadsters have also added a wave of experienced arms including Gabe Emmett, a former Dodgers draft pick and California League Pitcher of the Month, Anthony Diaz, who made 10 starts in the Atlantic League following his college career, and Joldanny Genao, who brings multiple seasons of experience from the Orioles organization.
From the left side, Sebastian Soriano and Johan Castillo provide a strong one-two combination. Soriano features a 95 MPH fastball and experience in the Padres system, while Castillo brings three years of professional experience, including 18 starts in 2025.
Rounding out the pitching group are Will Fazio, David Domis, and Tom Peltier. Fazio posted a 2.55 ERA at St. John’s before entering professional baseball, Domis impressed in his Pioneer League debut with six strikeouts and no earned runs, and Peltier logged 33 appearances in 2025 with Rocky Mountain.
DEFENSE UP THE MIDDLE
Behind the plate, the Roadsters have assembled a strong catching group to handle the staff.
Kevin Saenz Jr., a Tracy, California native, brings professional experience from both the Atlantic League and Pioneer League, adding a hometown presence behind the plate. Harry Owen brings over 120 games of professional experience, including time at the High-A level with the Atlanta Braves organization. Jacob Lojweski made his professional debut in 2025 within the Toronto Blue Jays system, playing across multiple levels.
VERSATILITY AND POWER IN THE FIELD
Position players in the first wave bring a combination of professional experience, athleticism, and offensive upside.
Michael Mugan returns after gaining professional experience in the Frontier League in 2025, where he played alongside future teammate Jonah Sebring. Sebring adds versatility across the field following his time in both college baseball and professional summer leagues.
Mikey Perez, a former MLB Draft selection by the Minnesota Twins out of UCLA, brings experience across multiple levels of affiliated baseball.
Max Handron, a standout at Cal Berkeley, arrives with proven power after hitting 24 home runs in college and posting a 1.281 OPS during the 2025 summer season. Isaac Pena adds further depth with three seasons in the Twins organization and the ability to play multiple positions across the infield.
Ethan Wilder rounds out the group with two years of professional experience in the Frontier League, where he earned All-Star honors in 2025.
COMPETITION STARTS NOW
This group represents nearly the full pool of Spring Training invites for the Roadsters’ inaugural season. Under Pioneer League roster rules, the club will trim the roster down to the league-mandated limit following camp, creating intense competition at every position.
Every inning, every at-bat, and every opportunity in Spring Training will matter as players compete to earn a place on the first Roadsters roster.
The Roadsters take the field for the first time this May, beginning a new era of professional baseball in Modesto.
